About Kendra's Work

A drawing or painting is a moment in time, a frozen piece of the thoughts and feelings of the artist who seeks to draw the viewer into the canvas. It stirs our emotions, creates a mood and reflects the spirit of the artist.

Enticed by colored pencil in college, Kendra has always been intriqued by the versatility and luminescence of the medium. She says:"Colored pencils permit me to combine the expressiveness of painting with the control of drawing. I try to look beyond the obvious in my subjects and depict them as I see in my imagination. Depending on surface texture and how color is applied, a variety of different techniques can be achieved. It is exciting to build multiple layers of color to achieve either glowing or subtle color, depending on what I am striving for in a piece."

Kendra uses lightfast, acid free and archival papers and materials in all of her work. Intricate shapes, color, value and shadow all capture her attention and Kendra works on a variety of subjects as you will see in her website galleries.

A signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America, Kendra's  favorite medium is colored pencil but she also works in oil, pastel and watercolor. She has begun experimenting with combining mediums to enhance, color, texture and style. Kendra works both in the studio and on location. Often she begins a piece of artwork plein air and finishes in the studio.
